Do you love mojitos? Are you looking for a mojito recipe with unique flavors that you can whip up in under 5 minutes? Then look no further – I think you’ll want to stick around to learn more about this one.
IT’S SUMMER…LET’S MIX IT UP A BIT
It’s summa, summa, summatime! When I think of summer, bumming it by the pool with a cooling drink in hand immediately comes to mind. And if you’re checking out this mojito recipe, chances are that you prefer that refreshing drink in hand to be a cocktail, just like I do. 🙂
One thing that I love about summer is all of the seasonal fruits that come out to play. Blackberries are the juicy summer fruit highlighted in this mojito recipe! If you haven’t tried blackberries and are curious about the taste, I would describe the flavor profile as sweet and slightly tart when perfectly ripe. Blackberry Harvest can run anywhere from May to September, depending on where you live. My advice when purchasing blackberries is to make sure they have a deep dark hue and appear to be plump. That is when they will taste their absolute best.
As you probably know, a Classic Mojito Recipe calls for just a handful of ingredients – lime juice, fresh mint leaves, sweetener, white rum, and club soda. While you can never go wrong with the classic recipe, summertime motivates me to get creative and get those seasonal fruit flavors involved in my cocktail mixes!
FRESH INGREDIENTS ARE ESSENTIAL TO ANY MOJITO RECIPE
No matter what ingredients you prefer in your mojito, there is something that you must prioritize in order for it to taste the best it possibly can, and that is the freshest of ingredients. Let’s talk about some tips.
Take mint leaves, for example. The potency of mint leaves that you personally pick off of a mint plant will enhance your mojito so much more than the mint leaves in the clamshell containers at the grocery store. If you happen to have your own mint plant hanging around, grabbing some mint leaves off of it for this mojito recipe would be ideal! If you don’t have a mint plant, I encourage you to look for a small mint plant in the grocery store or local plant store. They are typically just a few dollars and the best part is that you can water the mint plant in order to keep fresh mint on hand (which saves you some money in the long run).
The same applies when picking out your other ingredients for this mojito recipe – try your best to consciously choose fresh and ripe produce.
LET’S TALK RUM
A Classic Mojito traditionally uses white rum as the liquor. For this Blackberry Coconut Mojito Recipe, we will be using a white rum that is naturally coconut flavored. I absolutely love coconut and found that it pairs surprisingly very well with blackberries.
The rum featured in this mojito recipe is locally handcrafted at a distillery in Belmont, North Carolina. I discovered Muddy River Distillery’s Coconut Carolina Rum at a store here in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was super excited to try it. It did not disappoint! The coconut flavor does not have that artificially enhanced taste and the rum is silky smooth. This rum is just delicious. If you aren’t able to get your hands on this rum in your local store, try to opt for a coconut rum of quality (and one that is locally crafted would be even better)!

TIME TO ADD SPARKLES
A Classic Mojito Recipe traditionally tops the cocktail with club soda. We’re making yet another slight deviation from the classic recipe by substituting the club soda with a sparkling water that will add to the mojito’s flavor profile. We will be using Good & Gather’s Caffeinated Blackberry Mandarin Sparkling Water.
I was strolling through Target one afternoon (no grocery list, just vibes), and this product caught my eye. Adding it to a mojito recipe immediately came to mind. A pack of (8) 12oz cans costs just $3.29. There are 35mg of caffeine in each can, which can give you a small afternoon boost. I also want to add that these also taste amazing on their own.
YOUR ICE CHOICE MATTERS
Friend. I need you to listen to me carefully on this one. I know that ice is usually an afterthought when we’re making cold cocktails at home. Like, as long as the cocktail gets cold, that’s all that matters, right? Sure. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using the ice from the ice maker in your freezer. But if you’re looking to elevate your mojito, your cocktail game, or serve guests, invest in a couple of ice trays or ice molds. You will find that this small, inexpensive tip will dramatically upgrade your cocktails not just aesthetically. It will also change the taste and overall feel of your drinks. Your guests are sure to be impressed by the extra effort you put into making them feel like they’re at a fancy cocktail lounge!

TOOLS YOU WILL NEED FOR THIS MOJITO RECIPE
If you have bar tools on hand, great. If not, I’m almost positive you have some items in your kitchen that you can use instead. If you make cocktails often, then investing in a reasonably priced bar tool set might make your cocktail-making efforts a lot simpler in the future.
- Muddler (or a kitchen object that can muddle)
- Cocktail stirrer (or a long, thin kitchen spoon)
- Bar jigger (or mini measuring cup that contains ounce measurements).
- Your favorite cocktail glass (I think tall glasses work best for mojitos)
